Utah State Flag
History of the Utah State Flag:
The Utah state flag’s history dates back to 1896 when the state adopted its first flag. This flag was light blue with a white version of the Utah State Seal. This flag flew over the state until 1913. The Utah Daughters of the American Revolution presented a flag to Governor Heber M. Wells in 1903 and from this flag it was determined that an error on the flag’s seal had been made. This flag would serve as the Governor’s regimental flag and the official flag would need to be correct. This flag was taken to an artist and the proper corrections were made. This flag offers a darker blue background with the state’s seal in the center still in blue, but with a thin circular outline of gold. This outline matches the color of the fringe that boarders the entire flag. The state’s seal offers a bald eagle on top of a crest. The crest offers a beehive for the states nickname, the state’s motto “Industry” above the hive, and the state’s name below. An American Flag encases the crest.
