Washington State Flag
History of the Washington State Flag:
The history of the Washington state flag dates back to well over 30 years after the state was admitted to the Union in 1889. At the beginning of the twentieth century, numerous places in the state of Washington began to fly a flag that offered a golf profile of George Washington on blue bunting. Another flag that was displayed at this time offered a green background with the state’s seal in its center. In May of 1923 the green flag with the state’s seal was officially adopted. When adopted it was added that the flag was to be trimmed in green or gold fringe, but it was established in 1925 that the fringe was to be gold or yellow to match the color of the seal.
